Hello, my name is Joshua Franchetti, and I am running for the 27th Ohio Senate District.  I am writing to you and all unions not just for your support in my campaign, but to voice my outrage to the Republican Policy of labor.  This policy filters through all aspects of our lives, but to me it has become personal as I watch my father, also a UAW man out of Milan Ohio, watch of talks of Western Hemisphere Free Trade agreements, that will ultimately move his job to South America.  Unions were formed to provide job security for the labor force of this nation, and now that nation is working to destroy, or worse control, them.

My view of labor is simple, it is a resource, as valuable as coal and oil, but unlike coal and oil, the government does little to protect, utilize, or support it.  We need legislation at the State and federal level that not only respect the labor force, but ensures its security and rights as citizens of this country.

I am tired of watching the Republican Party ignore the critical needs of ordinary people and run this state into the ground. During my campaign, many people have expressed enormous discontent with the status quo and are desiring for real change. I am here to provide substantive solutions to the real problems facing Ohio.

With the current status of the state, the people?s major concerns are focused on education, economy, and job growth. With the Republicans in control, our public education systems are being short changed by diverting funds into private and charter schools. By making education strictly private, only the wealthy can afford a quality education.  We need to establish a system that puts the funds where they are needed: into the education of our future, our children.

In addition, think about higher education. College tuition is sharply rising, now that the tuition caps have been removed. This is deterring future students, because they can?t afford it, or it will leave them in horrendous debt. I am here to fight for quality education in public schools, to reinstate tuition caps, and work to insure that our public education systems and state institutions receive the funding they need to educate the future of Ohio. Through my efforts to refine and better Ohio?s education systems, Ohio will not only encourage our youth to stay in Ohio for their education, but will encourage fresh ideas that will help Ohio?s economy flourish.

It is not just about focusing on education, but to focus on Ohio?s economy as well. I will work hard to make Ohio a leader by creating an industry and business friendly environment. Ohio must position itself to welcome industry back when the cost of energy to transport goods great distances exceeds the labor savings of moving jobs overseas.

It is my determination not just to work for alternative energy sources, but to ensure that the impacts of those sources well not create future problems for our nation. We must ensure that any source of energy we use today will not adversely affect other parts of our lives now or in the future.

This is just a few of the ways we can turn Ohio back around. The people are desperate for someone who understands the issues that matter to them. I plan to take this campaign to the voters and let them know what we need to do to make a better Ohio. I hope you will join me in this effort.
